Chicago: Record High Temps on Thursday

As of 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, temperatures read above freezing across the board – 37 degrees at Midway International Airport, 39 at O’Hare. As the day goes on, a southwesterly flow will pump up the temperature to about 50. The overnight low is expected to be 46 On Thursday, the temperature could top out at 59 degrees, and some inland areas could even see 60 or more. A chance of rain is forecast for the afternoon. The record of 60 degrees for the day goes back to 1880.

NO Best New Artist of the Year for Beiber

Esperanza Spalding has just won the Grammy for Best New Artist, upsetting the heavy favorite, Justin Bieber.It’s been a weekend of firsts for Bieber — the premiere of his first movie, Never Say Never; his first Grammy performance. Whitney Houston and R.Kelly Sing Wow Crowd

Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy gala was an evening that included a saucy and touching tribute from Cher, sizzling performances from the likes of Mumford & Sons, Cee Lo Green and Jennifer Hudson, and the typical array of dazzling superstars in attendance. But the moments sure to generate the most buzz came from Whitney Houston and R. Kelly: both gave performances that bordered on bizarre, with two entirely different results. Kelly owned the evening with an electrifying set that had stars from Akon to “Glee” star Jane Lynch on their feet, as he sang his retro hit “When A Woman Loves”.

2011 Taste of Chicago: NO Big Music Acts

Chicago Cubs: Albert Pujols It Could Happen

The Cardinals are doing everything they can to figure out a way to keep Albert, but also preparing for the likelihood that he will be too expensive to keep around.  Signing Matt Holliday, re-signing Westbrook to add to an already top notch rotation, signing a veteran like Berkman, trading for Ryan Theriot, etc.  All of these signings point to a “win-now” mentality.  What is interesting to think about though is where Pujols could land if he chooses to test free agency.  You never count teams like New York or Boston out, but they seem to be more of a long shot for Pujols’ services than they usually would be. The Yankees are already committed to Mark Teixeira at 1B.  It’s possible they could go after Pujols and play one of them at DH, but not likely. The Red Sox just acquired Adrian Gonzalez and would like to keep him around if they can work out an extension.  Chances are if they don’t feel like paying Gonzalez they won’t feel like paying Pujols even more.  There are only a handful of teams in baseball that could afford to sign Pujols in the first place.  The Cubs are one of them. Another Blizzard Casualty: The Block 37 Mall Auction

Even Mother Nature is getting into the act at Block 37. The blizzard that paralyzed Chicago last week also postponed the court-ordered sheriff’s auction of the new mall at Block 37. The auction, which would be the largest foreclosure sale of a downtown property in more than a decade, was set for Feb. 2 after a group of lenders led by Bank of America Corp. obtained a foreclosure judgment in December against the four-level mall at 108 N. State St. Because of the blizzard, the sale was rescheduled for Feb. 3. But lawyers for ousted Block 37 developer Joseph Freed & Associates LLC asked the judge overseeing the foreclosure case to make the bank re-advertise the sale in accordance with legal foreclosure guidelines. Lindsay Lohan Charged With Felony Grand Theft of Necklace

Lindsay Lohan was charged Wednesday with felony grand theft in a California court. She allegedly stole a necklace, worth $2,500, from a Venice, Calif. store. Lohan will be arraigned at 1:30 PM PT, at which time she will have her mug shot taken and have the opportunity to post bail. 2011 New Elmo and Friends Toys

Hasbro is unveiling the new “Let’s Rock Elmo. It sing and plays the tambourine and a drum set. Kids can switch the musical instruments and Elmo will recognize which one he’s given.
