Zambrano rant says what everyone already thinks about Cubs

Zambrano ripped his teammates for playing dumb, “embarrassing” baseball — “like a Triple-A team” — before ending his postgame press conference with: “We stink.” Read more at: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Zambrano-rant-says-what-everyone-already-thinks-;_ylt=AnoiAqGRjvxAvA.cX77LmGc5nYcB?urn=mlb-wp8691

Teams That Could Pursue ALBERT PUJOLS

Albert Pujols and the St. Louis Cardinals did not work out an extension by Wednesday’s deadline and Pujols has said he will not negotiate during the season, so barring a change of heart the three-time MVP will begin fielding offers in November.

The Favorites

• Cardinals – Maybe St. Louis should still be considered the most likely landing place. Pujols has been the face of the franchise for a decade and is a draw for fans and corporate sponsors. The Cardinals will have five days of exclusive negotiating rights with Pujols at the end of the season, but let’s face it: If Pujols waits that long, he’s probably going to test free agency.

• Chicago Cubs – The thought of Albert Pujols in a Cubs uniform is a horrifying one for Cardinals fans, but it makes sense. First baseman Carlos Pena signed a one-year deal and the Cubs aren’t afraid of spending on free agents.

Chicago Cubs: Albert Pujols It Could Happen

The Cardinals are doing everything they can to figure out a way to keep Albert, but also preparing for the likelihood that he will be too expensive to keep around.  Signing Matt Holliday, re-signing Westbrook to add to an already top notch rotation, signing a veteran like Berkman, trading for Ryan Theriot, etc.  All of these signings point to a “win-now” mentality.  What is interesting to think about though is where Pujols could land if he chooses to test free agency.  You never count teams like New York or Boston out, but they seem to be more of a long shot for Pujols’ services than they usually would be. The Yankees are already committed to Mark Teixeira at 1B.  It’s possible they could go after Pujols and play one of them at DH, but not likely. The Red Sox just acquired Adrian Gonzalez and would like to keep him around if they can work out an extension.  Chances are if they don’t feel like paying Gonzalez they won’t feel like paying Pujols even more.  There are only a handful of teams in baseball that could afford to sign Pujols in the first place.  The Cubs are one of them. St. Louis Cardinals and Albert Pujols: It Could Be Over

The clock is ticking for the the St. Louis Cardinals to get an extension done with Albert Pujols. Reports are that Pujols and the Cardinals are way apart on negotiations and there is a good chance for no deal. Pujols is due in training camp on Feb. 16 and he has set a deadline on this day for a deal to be done. Rumor is Pujols is looking for a contract like Alex Rodriguez’ 10-year, $275 million the New York Yankees. Read more at: http://wp.me/p1gkax-Rn

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ mystery solved

With pitchers and catchers only moments from reporting to spring training, nothing else says baseball like an investigative essay about the time Ferris Bueller took in a ballgame at Wrigley Field. Yes, Larry Granillo of Wezen-Ball has done it again. Piecing together details from “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and the Baseball-Reference website, Larry does his best Sherlock Holmes-ian deducing to conclude which Chicago Cubs-Atlanta Braves game that Ferris, best bud Cameron Frye and special lady friend Sloane Peterson “saw” in the 1986 film. You’re probably thinking: What took someone so long?
